Sudirman Said – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources

JAKARTA – Sudirman Said, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, announced a reduction in the price of premium petrol (88 RON) from Rp 8,500 per liter down to Rp 7,600 per liter.

“I announce that the price premium becomes Rp7.600 / liter from yesterday’s price of Rp 8,500 / liter,” said Sudirman in Jakarta, Thursday (12/31/2014).

The new rate in Bali is Rp 7,950 a liter as Bali has a 10% vehicle fuel tax (PBBKB) rather than a 5% tax as elsewhere.

Sudirman said that because of the development of the decrease in oil prices worldwide, the government needs to take action about the Indonesian oil price and lower the premium petrol price.

Sofyan Djalil, the coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, said on a press statement (12/31/2014);

“The price will be evaluated every month. The government needs to evaluate this because currently, PT Pertamina is the only player. If later there is a healthy competition mechanism, the price would be more dynamic”.

In addition to the  premium fuel price decrease, solar (Diesel) will decrease as well from Rp 7,500 to Rp 7,250 per liter. Minyak Tanah (Kerosene) will stay at Rp 2,500. These prices will apply across Indonesia beginning on January 1, 2015 (midnight).

The pricing of solar is based on a formula consisting of a base price + VAT + vehicle fuel tax (PBBKB) and then reduced by a Rp 1,000 government subsidy. “This is called a fixed subsidy policy. So if the economic price of solar goes up or down the price of solar will also go down. It’s a good policy because the public will be invited to familiarize themselves with dynamics of economical price, ” Djalil concluded.
